About Us
Mercury Academic was orignally founded as Accurate Solutions in 1990 by Keith Taylor and Philip Akers. In 1992 we were invited by Magdalen College, Oxford to provide them with a new Student Administration system and we took this opportunity to renew our relationship with Oxford Colleges (both Keith and Philip worked for Eastman-Stuart and were involved in the development of one of the first student billing systems in Oxford, at Jesus College, in 1984).
The Student Administration module proved very successful and we continued to develop the other accounting modules required by Magdalen College and the other Colleges now using the system.
Over the past 32 years we have provided more and more integrated modules specifically designed for Oxbridge Colleges and we have gained an intimate and specialised knowledge of the workings of the various constituent departments. We own 100% of all of the Mercury Systems and all the modules are developed in-house by our own development staff. Because of this, we are able to amend any module at the request of any College and can do this quickly and cost effectively. We are now the leading supplier of administration systems to Oxbridge Colleges.
We have also written significant bespoke systems for Informix/IBM (contract maintenance renewal), The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association (dog management and breeding, accounts), British Airways (land and air-side personnel booking system), The Rolex Watch Company (stock and watch servicing systems). We currently provide Stowe School with pupil billing and accounting systems and Mack Brooks Exhibitions with multi-lingual and multi-currency exhibition and accounting systems.
In 2024 Accurate Solutions became Mercury Academic.
